Lady Gaga on hating Hollywood and why she defaced her Birkin in the September issue of Vanity Fair

I just picked up the September 2010 issue of Vanity Fair with Lady Gaga on the cover.

It’s a great read, I recommend it. Especially if you’re like me and haven’t really followed much of her career until now…it was very insightful. She says some really interesting things, including:

I hate Hollywood….Everyone in Hollywood is so awful, and awful to me; everyone just wants you to fail.

Well, it seems Lady Gaga got the last laugh because according to Forbes
, she’s earned 62 million. Ah, we love a success story. Go Gaga!

She is a fascinating character, that’s for sure. I also loved this video of the making of the Vanity Fair cover shoot:

And what about that infamous incident of the defacing of the Birkin bag? Here’s what she has to say about that:

So how do I create and make it into something that they will love and adore, and turn it into a performance-art piece in itself? My fans are more iconic than this purse. And I love fashion, but I don’t love it more than my fans. And that’s what this bag is all about.

Oh wait, that’s basically what she IS paid to do, when promoting a film. Ok, hold on – this post is meant as a celebration, not a mockery of Sienna Miller. My point is simply that I think her acting is fine but if I had to choose between watching her in a film and modeling all sorts of clothing. Well…she makes me want to run out and buy everything that I see her wearing. No really, like EVERYTHING she wears, I want to wear. Even writing this post was dangerous for me!

Style Spotlight on: Margarita Levieva-aka Lisa P. from Adventureland

If you don’t know who Margarita Levieva is, you will soon! She’s starring opposite Ashton Kutcher in the movie “Spread.” And we predict we’ll see a lot more of her in the future…

“Margarita Levieva’s sultry slow-motion entrance in the summer-job comedy Adventureland, writer-director Greg Mottola’s follow-up to Superbad, is a sight to behold. Accompanied by the seductive groove of The Rolling Stones’ “Tops,” Levieva’s character Lisa P. paralyzes all male onlookers as she struts through an amusement park while savoring a snow cone. Although the Russian-born actress has little in common with the gum-chewing, hair-flipping Tilt-A-Whirl operator she plays in Adventureland, which is set in 1987, Levieva has made an equally strong impression on the press in New York, where she now is based. In 2005, New York magazine ran a full-page close-up of Levieva as part of its “50 Most Beautiful New Yorkers” feature. And last year, when New Yorker film critic David Denby reviewed Noise, a film in which Levieva played a Russian philosophy student opposite Tim Robbins, he wrote, “I would watch her in anything,” noting that she displayed “a fervent intelligence the likes of which we haven’t seen in American movies for years.”

Levieva (pronounced leveeva) is a former world-class rhythmic gymnast who grew up in communist Leningrad, now St. Petersburg. She immigrated to the U.S. with her mother and twin brother when she was 11 years old. Although she loved performing, she passed on an opportunity to study dance at New York’s Laguardia High School and went on to study economics at NYU, paying for her education by working as a fashion buyer. Ultimately, she committed to acting and was accepted into the Meisner Training Program at the William Esper Studio. In 2006, she starred in the Fox series Vanished, and the following year she played tomboyish Annie Newton, a lead character in the teen supernatural thriller The Invisible. The Sunday before Adventureland’s release, Levieva appeared on an episode of the NBC drama Kings, and she currently can be seen on Broadway in Impressionism, starring Jeremy Irons and Joan Allen. I spoke to Levieva by phone a few hours before an evening performance of Impressionism.”

Taylor Momsen is on the August 2009 cover of Teen Vogue. Taylor is a perfect fit for the Teen Vogue cover, don’t you think? In the article, she tells Teen Vogue all about her love of singing, her band Pretty Reckless and her style transformation.

I had long, pretty hair, and it didn’t fit me. I’m pretty, but I’m not, like, a “pretty girl.” So I pulled up a bunch of photos of Joan Jett and said, “Do that to my hair.” There was a distinct change in my wardrobe, too, and I know people were a little, um, taken aback. But it wasn’t me that changed—it was just that I decided to start being myself. Now I do my own makeup, my own hair, and dress myself, and it feels better.

Julia Roberts has been America’s sweetheart for decades, it seems. But is her popularity finally waning? She hopes so!

Julia, starring in new flick Duplicity with Clive Owen, believes she’s been left in the wake of today’s young hotties-of-the-moment.

“Not many paparazzi follow me now,” she told the UK Telegraph. “It’s just the slow ones who haven’t yet figured out I’m not the one to follow.”

The Oscar winner hadn’t seen the teeming mob of photogs, a testament to her enduring star power despite being more of a stay-at-home mum these days to three kids — four-year-old twins Hazel and Phinn and 18-month old Henry.

With a wake of relationship crashes from Keifer Sutherland, Benjamin Bratt to Lyle Lovett, Julia put her career on the back burner for cameraman hubby Danny Moder, whom she met in 2002.

“Of course my life has changed,” Julia confessed. “But when you’ve got three toddlers in the house you’re performing all day long, anyway, with puppet shows and stories—I act around the clock.

“There are some days when as soon as you’ve finished cooking breakfast and cleaning up the kitchen it’s time to start lunch and by the time you’ve done that you’re doing dinner.”

Despite being invited to attend the Oscars, Julia did what the rest of us. She watched from home.
