Mad Men Yes Please the new Rolling Stone cover does its job and makes us want more

Everybody is talking about the new cover of Rolling Stone magazine featuring some of the cast members of the hit show, “Mad Men” on AMC. There has been much attention drawn to the fact that these stars are, ahem, photoshopped so much as to make them nearly unrecognizable as themselves. Bring it on, we say! This isn’t real life, it’s television!!!

Ok so we all remember Tony Danza from Who’s the Boss? and my favorite, the awesome 70s tv series: Taxi. I haven’t been a fan of many of the things he’s tried later in his career, The Tony Danza Show, etc. But now he’s got a new gig, as you may have heard. He spends an entire school year as a 10th grade English teacher in a Philadephia school while cameras filmed him for the new A&E reality series, “Teach: Tony Danza.” I’ve heard a few people making fun of this show’s concept in a big way (understandable). BUT I’m going out on a limb here…I will watch at least one episode…. I think it’s just the way he says this at the end of the clip:

I want to be Mr. D, you know? They remember ya!

Ok Tony, we got your back on this one. But try to remember not to take yourself too seriously, ok? It’s still reality tv.

Our picks for the best and worst at the 2010 Emmys and how to get the look!

I have to say, I wasn’t blown away by too many of the looks on last night’s 2010 Emmy Awards bash. But we’ll start with my faves. I did love Christina Hendrick’s purple Zac Posen gown! I thought it was risky but in just the right way. I think the color especially really complemented Christina’s skin tone. If you liked Christina Hendrick’s gown, we think you might love this Gypsy 05 Talya Maxi Dress (also seen on Vanessa Hudgens!) And did you know Zac Posen actually has an adorable line for Target with some really cute dresses?!

I also really loved January Jones’ choice of this quirky, bold Versace number! It will probably land her on some worst-dressed lists but not ours!

Claire Danes (who won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie for Temple Grandin) usually lands on a lot of worst-dressed lists but I’m guessing not tonight. This sparkly gold Giorgio Armani dress was very elegant yet had a simplicity to it that was refreshing.

Here’s a little something different! I loved True Blood‘s Carrie Preston’s look at this year’s Emmys. She wore a patterned gown designed by Makoto Takada. It’s different, for sure but it’s just right for the actress and the types of characters she plays, don’t you think?

19-year-old Modern Family star Sarah Hyland was absolutely one of my favorites and looks amazing in this dusky lavender-grey gown by Pamella Roland. No doubt we’ll be seeing more of her on red carpets in the future.

Ok, moving on to the Worst category…

Although Glee’s Lea Michele did look stunning in her Oscar de la Renta gown but she annoyed me after a few minutes of listening to her so lost a few points there.

Everyone raved about True Blood’s Anna Paquin in her Alexander McQueen gown but I thought she just looked like a Roman warrior. Not so much.

One look I wasn’t crazy about was Parenthood star and former Gilmore Girls star Lauren Graham’s black and white Yigal Azrouël gown. I love the gown but don’t think it’s right for her…it just seemed to broaden her shoulders and de-emphasize her waist. It seems like the gown would look great on a more petite woman.

Sofia Vergara, formerly of My Name is Earl fame and now Modern Family…meh. She is a very beautiful woman but I don’t think her Carolina Herrera dress did her much justice, surprisingly.

It’s a tie for the absolute WORST DRESSED at the 2010 Emmys between Stephanie Pratt, looking like she was going out to a club in Hollywood. Geez. And this girl, what’s-her-name from the same reality show? She got confused and thought it was a Mad Men-themed Halloween party or something. LOL. Nice.

Other faves/honorable mentions go to Kathy Griffin looking stunning in her black Marchesa gown. Jon Hamm looking striking in his Giorgio Armani tux, of course! And way to go Amy Poeler in blue Max Azria a mere 3 weeks after giving birth!

Number 10: Heidi Pratt. AND Spencer Pratt. I don’t even think I have to explain this because I think everyone in the world agrees with me on this one.

Number 9: Kim Kardashian. Famous for being Paris Hilton’s best friend (now former best friend, I guess). Ok, fine and then there was Keeping Up with the Kardashians. I shudder just writing that out. Wikipedia calls her a “celebutante.” Yeah, what? Exactly.

Number 8: Lauren Conrad. I never watched The Hills or any of that stuff. Why are you famous? For being 23, kind of hot and knowing when to keep your mouth shut and NOT get plastic surgery (note to Heidi Pratt, this is what you COULD’VE been).

Number 7: Anyone famous just for being on a reality show and having no other talent to speak of. Sigh.

Number 6: Jessica Simpson. Just. Go. Away. You’re fading, it’s true but NOT FAST ENOUGH!

Number 5: Rachel Bilson. (I’m gonna get some haters on this one, I know). But let me make my case. The girl hit it big when she was cast on The O.C. And because everyone paid massive amounts of attention to Mischa Barton, Rachel Bilson kind of slipped under the radar but yet was constantly photographed wearing semi-cute outfits. This apparently triggered a huge outpouring of fans that are probably mousy, semi-cute girls themselves who are into fashion….thus began R-Bils’ reign as being famous for not much except wearing cute outfits everywhere. Ah, isn’t life grand? Oh yeah, I almost forgot The Last Kiss. Ok, you can have credit for that one. Barely. But you get absolutely NO movie star points for Jumper.

Number 4: Miley Cyrus. I would just say I wish she was LESS famous. I’m being generous because I know little ones need some annoying girl to look up to…

Number 3: Emma Roberts. Another annoying teen girl who is famous for being Julia Roberts‘ niece. She wouldn’t have a career if it weren’t for that fact. Thank God she seems to be making horrible career choices (cough cough Wild Child)…I hope it speeds up the downward spiral.

Number 2: Kate Hudson. I’m the only person on the planet who thinks she was miscast as Penny Lane in Almost Famous. It was still a great movie, but that was IN SPITE of her, not because of her. I just don’t buy her as anything except a spoiled, Beverly Hills rich girl. Sorry.

Number 1: Toss up between Nicolas Cage and Ashton Kutcher. Nicolas Cage represents everything about movie stars that need to change, if you ask me. Overpaid. Overrated. Hasn’t been well cast since Moonstruck. Ok, and maaaaaaybe Peggy Sue Got Married. And Ashton was great on That 70s Show. Let me repeat. Ashton was great on That 70′s Show. (hint: on tv, where he belongs). I was reading something recently and was thrilled to see Ashton referred to as simply a “Twitter Aficionado.” No other description such as actor or any other word was used LOL.

I’m out of numbers but Mandy Moore gets an honorable mention. She would’ve made the list too except I haven’t seen her face lately, so that’s good. Although she was great in the movie Saved! so I will give her that.

I just picked up the September 2010 issue of Vanity Fair with Lady Gaga on the cover.

It’s a great read, I recommend it. Especially if you’re like me and haven’t really followed much of her career until now…it was very insightful. She says some really interesting things, including:

I hate Hollywood….Everyone in Hollywood is so awful, and awful to me; everyone just wants you to fail.

Well, it seems Lady Gaga got the last laugh because according to Forbes
, she’s earned 62 million. Ah, we love a success story. Go Gaga!

She is a fascinating character, that’s for sure. I also loved this video of the making of the Vanity Fair cover shoot:

And what about that infamous incident of the defacing of the Birkin bag? Here’s what she has to say about that:

So how do I create and make it into something that they will love and adore, and turn it into a performance-art piece in itself? My fans are more iconic than this purse. And I love fashion, but I don’t love it more than my fans. And that’s what this bag is all about.

Here’s Taylor Momsen performing with her band The Pretty Recklessrecently onstage in London. Oh Taylor Momsen. I think you’re great but I can’t help it…when I see this pic it makes me want to pluck you off that stage, wrap you in a blanket and plunk you down in front of the tv to watch cartoons with a sippy cup and a handful of cheerios! Eat, Pray, Loveyet? I haven’t but whenever a huge megastar like Julia Roberts comes out with a new film, I love to remember how they got their start. And how things would’ve been different if someone else had been cast in Pretty Woman. Like most of America, I suspect, I can’t imagine anyone else playing that role. Confession: Joaquin is my number one celebrity crush of all time. You know when you have those conversations with friends that ask, “If you could marry one celebrity, who would it be?” Yeah, you get the idea. Oh wait, you don’t have those conversations? Ok, moving on. My point is I’m fascinated by all things Joaquin. Even when he plays the bad guy, like in Gladiator you can’t tear me away!
