I would go back to school if I could get Tony Danza as my teacher

Ok so we all remember Tony Danza from Who’s the Boss? and my favorite, the awesome 70s tv series: Taxi. I haven’t been a fan of many of the things he’s tried later in his career, The Tony Danza Show, etc. But now he’s got a new gig, as you may have heard. He spends an entire school year as a 10th grade English teacher in a Philadephia school while cameras filmed him for the new A&E reality series, “Teach: Tony Danza.” I’ve heard a few people making fun of this show’s concept in a big way (understandable). BUT I’m going out on a limb here…I will watch at least one episode…. I think it’s just the way he says this at the end of the clip:

I want to be Mr. D, you know? They remember ya!

Ok Tony, we got your back on this one. But try to remember not to take yourself too seriously, ok? It’s still reality tv.

Eat, Pray, Loveyet? I haven’t but whenever a huge megastar like Julia Roberts comes out with a new film, I love to remember how they got their start. And how things would’ve been different if someone else had been cast in Pretty Woman. Like most of America, I suspect, I can’t imagine anyone else playing that role. This Flashback Friday is a tribute to Julia Roberts. Thanks for making movies for all these years!

Well it’s Flashback Friday here at moviestarstyle.com and who better to profile than Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton?! I’ve been meaning to write a post on this glamorous Hollywood couple for a long time. I’m fascinated by them and by their impact on the Hollywood landscape that exists even today.

They had a passionate, turbulent romance that was just so…watchable. Long before reality tv came along, folks loved to follow the ups and downs of Richard and Liz!

But even Angelina and Brad’s relationship doesn’t seem to have nearly as much drama as Liz and Richard’s did. Nor are they quite as glamorous. But that’s just me. What do you think? Can you think of another Hollywood couple that matches Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton for glamour and drama?!

Oh Mel. What happened?

Can you believe Sigourney Weaver once called Mel Gibson,

“The most gorgeous man I’ve ever met.”

That’s when they were starring together inThe Year of Living Dangerouslyaccording to this blurb from People magazine.
Listening to these crazy rants released by his girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva and mother of his youngest child made me reminisce about the old Mel. Mad MaxMel.Lethal WeaponMel.BraveheartMel. Swoon. Ah, we all have to fall down sometime, I guess.

Molly Ringwald Pretty in Pink

John Hughes, the famous 80s filmmaker who was the genius behind some of the greatest movies of the 80s – Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, etc. passed away last Thursday, August 6, 2009 from a heart attack.

It’s hard to imagine what the 80s (and 80s style, for that matter!) would’ve been like without the influence of John Hughes.
It’s been a tough year for 80s icons. (Madonna, don’t you dare!!!) Michael Jackson’s death was an epic loss, Farrah Fawcett’s a tragedy, but I have to say, the loss of John Hughes really hit me hard. His movies were and continue to be, some of my favorite movies of all time. I had big dreams for this blog post – thinking of all the wonderful things I could say about John Hughes and his influences on our culture, movies, and me personally but now that I’ve finally started writing, I find myself at a loss for words. I don’t think I realized how much John Hughes meant to me until I was reminded of his huge body of work from the articles that appeared immediately after he died.
The only thing I really want to say is Thank you, John Hughes. You will be missed.

Even though Clueless came out in 1995 (gasp!), I know…it seems like just yesterday that Alicia Silverstone hit the big-time as main character, Cher, the high school shopping diva with a big heart.

Time for a Movie Star Style Flashback!

I’m fascinated by what makes people famous. Most of the time it’s a tv show, a movie or being the child of someone famous. And it doesn’t hurt to be exceptionally beautiful too! In Liv Tyler’s case, she is the daughter of Aerosmith rocker Steven Tyler, and though she started modeling at age 15, she busted onto the scene in a big way in 1993 when she and Alicia Silverstone appeared together in one of the sexiest videos of all time: the video for the Aerosmith song Crazy!

Alicia Silverstone didn’t do too badly herself, considering she went on to star in the highly successful 1995 movie, “Clueless.”
