I’m Still Here-has Joaquin Phoenix lost his marbles or is it all for publicity?

Confession: Joaquin is my number one celebrity crush of all time. You know when you have those conversations with friends that ask, “If you could marry one celebrity, who would it be?” Yeah, you get the idea. Oh wait, you don’t have those conversations? Ok, moving on. My point is I’m fascinated by all things Joaquin. Even when he plays the bad guy, like in Gladiator you can’t tear me away!

So naturally, with the release of this new preview for his film, “I’m Still Here,” I’m so curious!

Capturing time periods realistically in film is challenging, to say the least. Having just seen the trailer for Peter Jackson’s new film, “The Lovely Bones,” based on the best-selling novel by Alice Sebold, we are happy to report that it is obvious that Jackson paid close attention to seventies details for this film. The Lovely Bones looks like it is going to be an amazing film!
“The Lovely Bones” centers on a young girl who has been murdered and watches over her family – and her killer – from heaven.
She must weigh her desire for vengeance against her desire for her family to heal. The film stars: Mark Wahlberg, Rachel Weisz, Susan Sarandon, Stanley Tucci, and of course, Saoirse Ronan as Susie. The The Lovely Bones
novel is wonderful – I highly recommend it if you haven’t read it.

Blink and you’ll miss Evangeline Lilly in The Hurt Locker but it’s still a must-see

Most of us know Evangeline Lilly from her role as Kate on the tv show Lost but she also has a small role in the film, “The Hurt Locker” that’s playing in theaters now.

I recently went to see this, expecting to see…’just another war movie.’ Well, I came away from seeing The Hurt Locker, thinking it was so good, I HAD to find a way to write a blog post about it (even though my blog has nothing to do with war movies!) So there you go. See it! And kudos to Evangeline Lilly for taking the small part of the wife of the main soldier, played by Jeremy Renner. She does a wonderful job and the story is so good, I’m glad she took the role. I wonder if any other ‘name’ actresses turned this part down because of how small it is but I have to say, it’s their loss. This film is a must-see:

First look at the teaser trailer for Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland…

This looks like it’s going to be a great film! I think Tim Burton was the perfect choice to attempt Alice in Wonderland.

I also love that they cast a relatively unknown actress: Mia Wasikowska as Alice. She brings a beautifully captivating style to Alice. We can’t wait to see the whole film!

The movie stars Mia Wasikowska as Alice, Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen, Matt Lucas as Tweedledee and Tweedledum. Michael Sheen plays the White Rabbit, Alan Rickman – Caterpillar, Christopher Lee – Jabberwock, Stephen Fry – Cheshire Cat and Crispin Glover stars as The Knave of Hearts.
The movie is being directed by Tim Burton from the script by Linda Woolverton and is scheduled to hit theaters on March 5th, 2010

Orphan gets my vote as best horror movie of 2009 just from the trailer

I have a secret…
It’s something you’ll discover if you become a reader of my blog and something you would definitely not guess about me: I love horror movies. Any and all kinds. Old, new, gory, suspenseful, campy or classy. Ok, I have another secret: I love movies that are made to honor the story first and NOT the movie stars, I mean, actors. Surprised? So you can understand why I’m so excited about seeing the new movie Orphan. It looks awesome!

The tragic loss of their unborn child has devastated Kate (Vera Farmiga) and John (Peter Sarsgaard), taking a toll on both their marriage and Kate’s fragile psyche as she is plagued by nightmares and haunted by demons from her past. Struggling to regain some semblance of normalcy in their lives, the couple decides to adopt another child. At the local orphanage, both John and Kate find themselves strangely drawn to a young girl named Esther (Isabelle Fuhrman).

Almost as soon as they welcome Esther into their home, however, an alarming series of events begins to unfold, leading Kate to believe that there’s something wrong with Esther—this seemingly angelic little girl is not what she appears to be. Concerned for the safety of her family, Kate tries to get John and others to see past Esther’s sweet facade. But her warnings go unheeded until it may be too late…for everyone.

“Orphan” is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (“House of Wax”), from a screenplay by David Leslie Johnson and a story by Alex Mace. The film stars Vera Farmiga (“The Departed”), Peter Sarsgaard (“Elegy”), Isabelle Fuhrman (“Hounddog”), CCH Pounder (TV’s “The Shield”) and Jimmy Bennett (“Star Trek”).
