So the 2009 Teen Choice Awards were last weekend and
the most exciting part of the show, for me, was checking out what people wore.

My first choice for favorite outfit is a tie between Selena Gomez and Kristen Stewart, who seriously went for the rocker look in a Rock & Republic metal mini dress (probably heavily influenced by shooting the film The Runaways, in which she is playing Joan Jett). She really went for it, and in my opinion, she pulled off this look really well!

Tied with Kristen Stewart for first place for my favorite outfit was Selena Gomez! She looks so elegant and relaxed in her one-shoulder lavender dress! Selena is wearing a Baby Phat dress by Kimora Lee Simmons. Here is a similar dress on the Baby Phat website: the Cuffed Dolman Sleeve Dress

It’s a completely different look than Kristen’s and I just couldn’t decide between the two.

This wouldn’t be a post about the Teen Choice Awards without including a pic of Miley Cyrus, whose outfit (white Hanes tank and Haute Hippie mini skirt) I actually think is pretty cute. Since this is strictly a fashion post I won’t comment on the striper pole incident! But if you missed it, you can watch Miley’s striper pole dance here.

Honorable mention for best fashion choice goes to Hayden Panettiere for her choice of a simple, elegant light pink Zac Posen dress!

Tied for my least favorite/worst fashion choices at the 2009 Teen Choice Awards are Alexis Bledel, in this reminiscent-of-a-bad-prom experience blue dress…

I’m actually a fan of jumpsuits (I admit it!) (the lucy twill jumpsuit from French Connection is my current favorite.) So, it takes a lot to screw up a jumpsuit look for me but it happened in this case. Not lovin’ this choice. But maybe it is just too big on her…

Molly Ringwald Pretty in Pink

John Hughes, the famous 80s filmmaker who was the genius behind some of the greatest movies of the 80s – Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, etc. passed away last Thursday, August 6, 2009 from a heart attack.

It’s hard to imagine what the 80s (and 80s style, for that matter!) would’ve been like without the influence of John Hughes.
It’s been a tough year for 80s icons. (Madonna, don’t you dare!!!) Michael Jackson’s death was an epic loss, Farrah Fawcett’s a tragedy, but I have to say, the loss of John Hughes really hit me hard. His movies were and continue to be, some of my favorite movies of all time. I had big dreams for this blog post – thinking of all the wonderful things I could say about John Hughes and his influences on our culture, movies, and me personally but now that I’ve finally started writing, I find myself at a loss for words. I don’t think I realized how much John Hughes meant to me until I was reminded of his huge body of work from the articles that appeared immediately after he died.
The only thing I really want to say is Thank you, John Hughes. You will be missed.

Oh wait, that’s basically what she IS paid to do, when promoting a film. Ok, hold on – this post is meant as a celebration, not a mockery of Sienna Miller. My point is simply that I think her acting is fine but if I had to choose between watching her in a film and modeling all sorts of clothing. Well…she makes me want to run out and buy everything that I see her wearing. No really, like EVERYTHING she wears, I want to wear. Even writing this post was dangerous for me!

Another Heath Ledger final project debuts on myspace – his fight against whaling practices

“When Heath Ledger passed away in January 2008, he had no shortage of things he was working on.
(image: scrapetv.com) Just about everyone in the world, it seems, saw The Dark Knight, but he had smaller projects too. One of those was directing a music video for the band Modest Mouse, for their song “King Rat.”

The video, which is animated, is meant be a statement against modern whaling practices in Ledger’s home country of Australia. Sadly, Ledger died before he could complete the video, so The Masses, a film and music company Ledger was a partner in, stepped in along with co-director Daniel Auber to finish it.”

More proof Heath Ledger was taken from us too soon. It’s hard not to imagine how much good he could have done for the world had he remained in it just a little longer.

Capturing time periods realistically in film is challenging, to say the least. Having just seen the trailer for Peter Jackson’s new film, “The Lovely Bones,” based on the best-selling novel by Alice Sebold, we are happy to report that it is obvious that Jackson paid close attention to seventies details for this film. The Lovely Bones looks like it is going to be an amazing film!
“The Lovely Bones” centers on a young girl who has been murdered and watches over her family – and her killer – from heaven.
She must weigh her desire for vengeance against her desire for her family to heal. The film stars: Mark Wahlberg, Rachel Weisz, Susan Sarandon, Stanley Tucci, and of course, Saoirse Ronan as Susie. The The Lovely Bones
novel is wonderful – I highly recommend it if you haven’t read it.

If you don’t know who Margarita Levieva is, you will soon! She’s starring opposite Ashton Kutcher in the movie “Spread.” And we predict we’ll see a lot more of her in the future…

“Margarita Levieva’s sultry slow-motion entrance in the summer-job comedy Adventureland, writer-director Greg Mottola’s follow-up to Superbad, is a sight to behold. Accompanied by the seductive groove of The Rolling Stones’ “Tops,” Levieva’s character Lisa P. paralyzes all male onlookers as she struts through an amusement park while savoring a snow cone. Although the Russian-born actress has little in common with the gum-chewing, hair-flipping Tilt-A-Whirl operator she plays in Adventureland, which is set in 1987, Levieva has made an equally strong impression on the press in New York, where she now is based. In 2005, New York magazine ran a full-page close-up of Levieva as part of its “50 Most Beautiful New Yorkers” feature. And last year, when New Yorker film critic David Denby reviewed Noise, a film in which Levieva played a Russian philosophy student opposite Tim Robbins, he wrote, “I would watch her in anything,” noting that she displayed “a fervent intelligence the likes of which we haven’t seen in American movies for years.”

I’m pretty, but I’m not, like, a “pretty girl.” So I pulled up a bunch of photos of Joan Jett and said, “Do that to my hair.” There was a distinct change in my wardrobe, too, and I know people were a little, um, taken aback. But it wasn’t me that changed—it was just that I decided to start being myself. Now I do my own makeup, my own hair, and dress myself, and it feels better.

Blink and you’ll miss Evangeline Lilly in The Hurt Locker but it’s still a must-see

Most of us know Evangeline Lilly from her role as Kate on the tv show Lost but she also has a small role in the film, “The Hurt Locker” that’s playing in theaters now.

I recently went to see this, expecting to see…’just another war movie.’ Well, I came away from seeing The Hurt Locker, thinking it was so good, I HAD to find a way to write a blog post about it (even though my blog has nothing to do with war movies!) So there you go. See it! And kudos to Evangeline Lilly for taking the small part of the wife of the main soldier, played by Jeremy Renner. She does a wonderful job and the story is so good, I’m glad she took the role. I wonder if any other ‘name’ actresses turned this part down because of how small it is but I have to say, it’s their loss. This film is a must-see:
